A year-and-a-day comes from the ancient lunar cycle Twelve 28 moon cycles, which is the Celtic year plus one day is the Solar year that our calendars are on now.
Making a dedication to your practice for a year-and-a-day is a powerful act. You begin with a ceremony where you make your commitments and ask for spiritual support. At the end of the year and a day you have another ceremony to reflect on, acknowledge and celebrate the work you have done.
In the year and a day dedication, a muse or particular spiritual helper is often chosen. In this way you are creating a temporary working bond between you and this Spirit of Kindness. You can also commit to being taught by an element (earth, water, air, fire).
There are a few reasons why this sort of commitment is so powerful. Alerting the spirits of your dedication and showing through your own discipline inspires them to be much more present. Deep teachings are enabled by journeying through the Wheel of the Year, allowing all four seasons to share their wisdom.
How would you know what to devote your energy, practice and time to?
In traditional pagan practices, the agenda may be set up for you, as the year and a day is designed to initiate you into a predetermined path. But the Raven Light Mystery School is not traditional. It is fully inspired. You choose the mysteries you are venturing into.
Many of us have done Year and a Day commitments several times. You are welcome do one for each of the Paths offered at the Raven Light Mystery School.
